Author Biography:
Adam Posen is deputy director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC, where he has been a senior fellow since 1997. His research focuses on macroeconomic policy and performance, European and Japanese political economy, and central banking issues. A widely cited expert on monetary policy, he has been a visiting scholar at central banks worldwide, including on multiple occasions at the Federal Reserve Board, the European Central Bank, and the Deutsche Bundesbank. He has been the Houblon-Norman Senior Fellow at the Bank of England. He has also been a consultant to several US government agencies (including the Departments of State and Treasury and the Council of Economic Advisors), the European Commission, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and to the International Monetary Fund on a variety of economic and foreign policy issues. He is a member of the Panel of Economic Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office for 2007-09. In December of 2008, Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman of the New York Times said "People should be reading Adam Posen." Jean Pisani-Ferry is director of Bruegel, a Brussels-based economic think tank, and Professor at the Universite Paris-Dauphine. He is a member of the French Prime Minister's Conseil d'Analyse Economique and of the European Commission President's Group of Economic Policy Analysis (GEPA). He was previously Director of CEPII, the main French research institute in international economics (1992-97), and Executive President of the French Prime Minister's Council of Economic Analysis (2001-02). His policy experience includes positions with the European Commission (1989-92) and working as the economic advisor to the French Minister of Finance (1997-2000). He is the author of a number of books including An Agenda for a Growing Europe: The Sapir Report (2004).
